About High Energy
A small, owner-run solar, battery and electrical business in West End, Brisbane.
Clean, reliable energy under your control, doing what you want it to do.
That sentence is the whole reason High Energy exists. Most homes are on the receiving end of their energy: the retailer sets the tariff, the tariff decides when power is expensive, and the house just wears it. Solar, storage and a bit of thought turn that around — the house runs on what you generated, when you decide to use it.
Everything below is in service of that. The design work, the choice of gear, the licence, the fact that the person who quotes your job is the person standing in your driveway on install day.
The person you'll deal with
I'm Matt Thompson. I'm a licensed electrical contractor and an accredited installer, and High Energy is my business — not a franchise, not a call centre with a trade name attached. When you ring 1300 025 975, you get me.
I design your system, I oversee the install with the same two installers I've worked with for years, and I'm the one who answers the phone if something isn't right afterwards. That continuity is the point: there's nobody to hand you off to, and nobody whose commission depends on selling you a bigger system than your roof and your usage justify.
It also means I can only take on so much work at once, and I'd rather that than the alternative. A solar install is a twenty-year decision made in an afternoon. It deserves someone who will still pick up the phone in year six.
How we work
We design around your house, not a catalogue
Every system is modelled against how your household actually uses energy and against your actual roof — the faces that earn their keep, the trees that shade them, the supply you've got at the street. A system that fits your life is one you can genuinely run on your own terms. A system sized off a brochure is one you end up working around.
The gear has to still be doing its job in year ten
We install quality inverters, panels and batteries — GoodWe, Trina, Jinko, Winaico, BYD, SigEnergy, Enphase, Selectronic — because the control you paid for is worth nothing if the hardware quits in year four. Cheap equipment doesn't save money; it defers the cost and adds a fight with a warranty department.
Off-grid is the proof
We're accredited for stand-alone power systems — homes that run with no grid behind them at all. There's no safety net in that work: the design either carries the household through a wet week in winter or it doesn't. Every grid-connected system we design gets the same thinking, which is why we'd rather talk about your evening usage than a number on a brochure.
One licence covers the whole job
We're licensed electricians as well as accredited installers. Switchboard upgrades, EV chargers, hot-water timers, smoke alarms, fault-finding — that's a line on the quote, not a second trade for you to chase. If your switchboard needs work before a battery can go in, you'll hear it from us before the job starts, not halfway through.
What we don't do
We don't door-knock, we don't cold-call, and there's no sales team — because there's no one here but us. We won't sell you a battery if a hot-water timer would do the job, and we'll tell you when a plan or a product isn't worth it, including when that costs us the sale.
We're also not the cheapest quote you'll get. There's usually a reason someone is cheaper — thinner gear, a subcontractor you'll never meet, or a design that was never really done. If price is the only thing that matters on your job, we're probably not your installer, and that's a fair outcome for both of us.
