What we check
Four areas, top to bottom — the parts of your home’s electrics that quietly keep everyone safe.
The box with all the switches in it. We check the main switch, your safety switches (RCDs) and whether they actually trip, the condition of the cabling and connections, and whether circuits are clearly labelled — so the right switch is easy to find in an emergency.
The circuits running your powerpoints and appliances. We look at how they’re protected, flag any that aren’t covered by a safety switch, and note tired outlets or signs of overloading that are worth addressing.
The circuits feeding your lighting. We check their protection and condition — older homes often have lighting on unprotected circuits, which is exactly the kind of thing the report makes visible.
A quick look at your smoke alarms against the current Queensland rules — type, age and placement — so you know where you stand ahead of the 2027 deadline. If you want the full upgrade, that’s a separate fixed-price job.

Why it’s free (the honest version)
No catch, no gimmick. Here’s the actual reasoning.
It’s how we introduce ourselves. When people see a careful, no-pressure job on the free inspection, a fair number ask us to handle any repairs — and some come back later for solar, a battery or an EV charger. The inspection earns that trust. If your home’s fine, we’ve still met a good local customer.
You’re never obligated to fix anything. Repairs are quoted per item and only go ahead if you approve them. You can take the report, get other quotes, or do nothing at all. That’s entirely your call.

Is the inspection really free? What’s the catch?+
It’s genuinely free and there’s no obligation. We check your switchboard, power circuits, light circuits and smoke alarms and hand you a plain-English report — you owe us nothing for that. We do it because a good number of people who find a problem ask us to fix it, and some go on to solar or a battery down the track. If your home checks out fine, we’ll tell you so and go on our way. You only ever pay for repairs you choose to approve.
What do you actually check?+
Your main switchboard (main switch, safety switches / RCDs, the condition of the cabling and connections, and whether circuits are correctly labelled), your power circuits (outlets and their protection), your light circuits, and your smoke alarms against the current Queensland rules. Each item is scored SAFE, KEEP AN EYE, or AT RISK, and anything that needs work comes with an indicative cost so there are no surprises.
What is the traffic-light report?+
Instead of electrician jargon, you get a simple card. Green (SAFE) means the item meets current standards and needs nothing. Amber (KEEP AN EYE) means it’s working now but is ageing or worth watching. Red (AT RISK) means it’s a genuine safety concern we’d recommend addressing. Every red and amber item lists what the fix involves and an indicative price, so you can decide what matters to you.
Do I need a safety switch (RCD)? How do I know if mine works?+
Safety switches (RCDs) cut the power in a fraction of a second if a fault could send current through a person — they’re the single biggest protection against electric shock in the home. Many older Queensland homes have one only on the power circuits, or none at all, and even fitted ones can fail silently over time. Part of the inspection is testing the ones you have and flagging circuits that aren’t protected.
How long does it take and do I need to be home?+
A typical inspection takes around 45 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the home and how easy the switchboard and roof space are to reach. Someone over 18 does need to be home to give us access and to talk through the report at the end. We work around Brisbane and South East Queensland.
